Before a child is born into a family, there are many important decisions and purchases that are required prior to the birth. Perhaps the most important is a baby car seat. Once the mother has given birth, the length of stay at the hospital may vary, sometimes it can be a long time, other times they may be able to leave within a few hours. It’s important that you already have the seat installed in the car, to make the process as easy as possible for the new parents.
The first step in purchasing a new car seat is to ensure that your car is compatible with it. Some newer models of cars may not be suited to a certain type of baby seat. You should have the option to see if it fits in your car first, before purchasing it.

Children’s safety is the primary focus of any decent car seat. It’s imperative that you choose the right size seat according to the stage in your infant’s life. Most newly developed seats are adjustable and can cater for both new-born babies and toddlers. The rear-facing seat is suitable for an infant up to the age of two. Once they reach this age they are able to sit in the front-facing position. This may require a new chair if the one you purchased is not adaptable.
There will be a stage in the future where they will outgrow the seat. This is not a time to panic. It simply means it’s time to move onto a booster seat. They also come in a variety of styles. You may choose to buy one with a back, for extra support. The aim of a booster seat is to help position the toddler at a decent height, so the car seat belt can be used to secure them to the seat.

The decision for what car seat you purchase for your child is an important one. It should be considered, researched and purchased well before the birth of your child.
